Mass timber construction is quickly emerging as a sustainable and innovative alternative to traditional materials like concrete and steel, driven by recent updates to national and provincial building codes. Some projects in Toronto, such as TRCA Head Office, Limberlost Place and T3 Bayside are really stand out.
As part of my exploration into sustainable architecture, I designed a three-story mass timber office building using Revit to study the material properties, structural components, and construction methods involved in this innovative building approach. In addition, I conducted a focused study on a Double Skin Façade system, which enhances thermal performance, acoustic insulation, and energy efficiency through a ventilated cavity between glass layers and metal panels. Integrated shading devices further improve solar control and occupant comfort.
